Is it just me or has there been nothing to get excited about in the consumer mobile phone market for the past couple of years? My wife was choosing a new mobile phone last week so I tagged along to see what was on offer and what did I find of interest? Answer: Absolutely nothing (OK, nothing apart from the fact that the cameras are pretty good these days on certain models and you can play Sonic the Hedgehog instead of Snake.)
Seriously, 3G/UMTS was only available on a few models and the services on offer were the same disappointing mishmash I saw two years ago. GPS (which surely should be a standard app by now) was a luxury option and email functionality still in the dark ages. Perhaps it's a European problem for some reason, but innovation over here seems to have been put on hold...
